Afro-Venezuelan Jazz Fusion · A tribute to Maestro Gerry Weil
About the show
Afro-Venezuelan
Jazz Fusion
Oswaldo Gomez and Heidy Balza open the MoonJune Festival 2026 with a heartfelt tribute to Gerry Weil (1939–2024) — the Austrian-born Venezuelan pianist who pioneered jazz fusion in Latin America, blending jazz, funk, psychedelic rock and Afro-Caribbean roots into a sound that defined a generation.
From Venezuela by way of Toledo, this duo carries Weil's spirit forward: a guitar and piano dialogue over Afro-Venezuelan grooves, where bebop sensibilities meet montuno, joropo and the rhythmic instincts of the Caribbean. A free open-air set under the night sky of Piazza Sant'Anna — the perfect way to kick off four days of curatorial music in Teramo.
